Founded in 1891, Club Brugge are the only Belgian club to reach a European Cup final: in 1978, under legendary Austrian coach Ernst Happel (who also led the club to three straight league titles that decade), they lost 1-0 to Liverpool at Wembley. It remains, to this day, Belgian football's ceiling in the top continental competition.
