Nicknamed "the Powerhouse of the Mountain," Independiente Medellín have never won the Libertadores, but their 2003 run remains a reference point in Colombia: they topped a group featuring Boca Juniors, Colo-Colo and Barcelona SC, then eliminated Cerro Porteño and Grêmio before falling in the semifinals to Santos. Not to be confused with Atlético Nacional, the city's other major club.
