Under coach Osvaldo Zubeldía, Estudiantes became the first club to win three straight Libertadores titles (1968-1970), playing such a combative style it was nicknamed "anti-football." That era peaked with a win over Manchester United in the 1968 Intercontinental Cup. After 39 years without a title, they returned to the top in 2009: a 0-0 draw away in Belo Horizonte was followed by a 2-1 home win over Cruzeiro (Boselli scoring the second-half winner) for a 2-1 aggregate title.
