Ecuador's most decorated club domestically (16 titles) have never won the Libertadores despite two finals: in 1990 they lost to Paraguay's Olimpia, and in 1998 to Vasco da Gama. Born in Guayaquil's Astillero neighborhood, their name honors the Catalan community that supported the city.
